Your privacy matters to us. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, how it is used, and the choices you have when using Thira. By using Thira, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. What Thira Is

Thira is a dating app designed specifically for people physically present at Kozhikode Beach, Kerala, India. Users can view nearby profiles, send a "wave" (like), match with others, and chat when both parties show mutual interest.

Thira is intentionally location-restricted and only functions when users are within the defined perimeter of Kozhikode Beach.

2. Eligibility

• Thira is strictly for users aged 18 and above
• During onboarding, users are required to enter their date of birth
• Users who indicate an age below 18 are blocked from using the app
• We do not knowingly collect data from minors
• There is no government ID verification; age is self-declared

If we learn that a user is under 18, we will immediately delete their account and associated data.

3. Information We Collect

3.1 Account & Identity Information

• Phone number (used for OTP-based authentication)
• Firebase Authentication UID
• Display name (no real-name requirement)
• Date of birth (used for age verification and matching)

3.2 Profile Information

Information you choose to provide, including:

• Bio, pickup line
• Gender
• Height
• Job title, company, school
• Interests and languages
• Lifestyle preferences (smoking, drinking)
• Relationship goals
• Match preferences (age range, genders)

3.3 Photos

• Profile photos uploaded by users
• Stored securely using Firebase Storage and/or Supabase Storage
• Photos are only visible to other users within the app context

3.4 Location Information (Critical)

Thira is a location-bound app. Location data is handled with strict limits:

• We request location permission only when the app is opened
• Location is collected only while the app is in use
• No background or closed-app location tracking
• Exact GPS coordinates are stored only if you are physically at Kozhikode Beach
• If you open the app outside Kozhikode Beach:
  • Location is checked locally on the device
  • No coordinates are saved to our servers
• We store only the current or last-known location
• We do not store historical location trails

4. Chats & Messaging

• Chats are enabled only after a mutual match
• Messaging uses Firebase Realtime Database
• Messages are:
  • Encrypted in transit via HTTPS
  • Not end-to-end encrypted
  • Technically readable on our backend

Moderation & Safety

• We do not routinely read private chats
• Users can report profiles or conversations
• If a report is filed, we reserve the right to review chats or profile data strictly for investigation and safety purposes
• Blocking a user freezes the chat permanently for both parties

Deletion

• Individual messages deleted by users are removed immediately
• When an account is deleted:
  • All chats are deleted
  • Profile data is removed
  • Photos are scheduled for deletion (may occur gradually)

5. Analytics, Logs & Diagnostics

We use third-party services to understand app performance and stability:

• Firebase Analytics
• Firebase Crashlytics
• Firebase Remote Config

These services may collect:

• Device type and OS version
• App version
• Crash logs
• Approximate location (non-precise)
• IP address or anonymized identifiers (as governed by Google's policies)

We do not use analytics data to personally identify users.

6. How We Use Your Data

We use collected data to:

• Provide core dating functionality
• Match users at Kozhikode Beach
• Enable chats and interactions
• Maintain safety and prevent abuse
• Monitor app performance and crashes
• Communicate important app-related information (within the app)

We do not sell or rent user data to any third party.

7. Third-Party Services

Thira relies on trusted third-party platforms, each governed by their own privacy policies:

• Google Firebase (Auth, Analytics, Crashlytics, Realtime DB, Cloud Storage)
• Supabase
• Open-source libraries and tooling

These services may collect limited technical data as required for their operation.

8. Account Deletion & Data Retention

Account Deletion

• Users can delete their account at any time via: Profile → Settings → Delete Account
• Account deletion is final and irreversible
• Upon deletion:
  • Profile data is erased
  • Chats are deleted
  • Photos are removed (some deletions may complete gradually)

Data Retention

For security, legal, and fraud-prevention purposes:

• Certain logs, backups, or media files may be retained for 3 to 6 months
• Retained data is not used for marketing or profiling
• After the retention period, data is permanently deleted

9. Community Guidelines & Enforcement

• Thira enforces community guidelines
• We reserve the right to:
  • Suspend or ban accounts
  • Remove content
  • Restrict access without prior notice
• Decisions are made to protect user safety and platform integrity

10. Legal Compliance

• Thira operates under Indian law
• Jurisdiction: Kerala, India
• We cooperate with lawful requests from law enforcement and government authorities when legally required

11. Children's Privacy

• Thira is not intended for anyone under 18
• We do not knowingly collect data from minors
• Any discovered minor accounts are immediately deleted

12. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access your personal data
• Update or correct your profile
• Delete your account and associated data
• Withdraw location permission (app functionality will be limited)

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.

Changes will be reflected with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app means acceptance of the revised policy.
